Renly Desktop for Windows
The desktop app is the same Renly you use on the web, plus the things only a native app can do: work with folders on your machine, run governed code sessions locally, and keep agents within reach all day.
Install
- Microsoft Store: search for "Renly" in the Store on Windows 10 or 11. This is the simplest path and updates are handled for you.
- Direct download: see the Renly Desktop download page for requirements and IT deployment notes. To get the installer, sign in to Renly and open Get the apps from your account menu. The app updates itself automatically.
What the desktop app adds

| Local working folders | Point a chat at a folder on your machine. Agents read and stage work through a governed gateway, and the files never need to be uploaded first. |
| Code sessions | Run coding work against local repositories with diff previews, change-set approval cards, and per-edit checkpoints you can revert. |
| Governed terminal | Terminal access is contained and off by default. Your organisation controls whether it is available at all, and every command respects the approval flow. |
| Live files | Files an agent is working on update in place as the work happens. |
| Agent browser | Agents can drive governed browser windows on your machine for research and web tasks, with the same approval rules as every other capability. |
Device governance
Everything the desktop app can do on your machine is governed at the organisation level. Admins decide whether device capabilities are enabled for their organisation, actions are recorded to the audit trail, and a platform kill switch exists above it all. The desktop app extends Renly's runtime to your device; it does not escape it.
Tips
- The window is a custom titlebar app: use the back and forward controls in the titlebar to move through the app like a browser.
- Desktop-only surfaces appear automatically when you are in the app; nothing extra to configure.
- If sign-in opens a Microsoft page, the whole sign-in journey stays inside the app window.
